Monday, 26 June, 10:00 – 11:30 (CET, Rome time)
The event is organized by International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Sustainable Production, Marketing and Institutions Division (PMI), Water and Rural Infrastructure Desk. The event will target IFAD professional staff serving country operations, including PMD country teams and SKD specialists. The event will also target government officials, projects, and P/FOs. Representatives of climate financiers will also be invited.
The objective of the event is to introduce the GR4W approach, provide real-life examples and initiate an interactive dialogue on what to do, what to avoid and how to move it forward, especially in IFAD projects. The incorporation of the Green Roads for Water approach and Guidelines in new water management initiatives will support the positive transformation of family farming and build the resilience of rural communities around the world.
Event Outcomes
The participants will be introduced to the GR4W approach and learn about the opportunities to integrate it into their projects where possible, whether they are professionals or beneficiaries. Participants will also be exposed to how the approach can produce multiple benefits and the opportunities they will have with green and climate financiers. Specifically, the event is expected to broaden knowledge and understanding of the GR4W approach among key IFAD actors and other stakeholders, encourage the adoption of guidelines for investment in this area, highlight the importance of cooperation between development actors and financial actors for more greening of roads and a strong interrelationship with water management, and help building argument with financial institutions on how to leverage financial support for GR4W from green and climate funds.
Event format
The learning event will showcase the concept and examples from around the world of GR4W and takeaways for policy dialogue, operationalization and funding at national and regional levels. Existing opportunities to engage in GR4W will be introduced with guidelines for moving forward. Authors, project staff and P/FOs will present their experience with GR4W with feedback and a Q&A session where participants will interact with them. The event will be run in virtual mode.
